Washback of an English Language Assessment System in a Malaysian University Foundation Programme

چکیده
Washback refers to the influence of language assessment on teaching and learning. In contrast wealth studies involving external large-scale examinations, scant research has been conducted explore internal instruction, particularly in context a university foundation programme. This qualitative study investigated washback effects an English system (ELAS) learning Malaysian Apart from in-depth analysis official documents ELAS, we individual semi-structured interviews with three curriculum developers, instructors, four students alumni programme analysed collected data using Miles Huberman’s (1994) framework for analysis. Findings indicated that its different forms, exerted overall positive various aspects Yet, number factors related assessment, teachers, as well mediated extent experienced. Based findings study, put forward few recommendations how encourage washback.
